Call of Duty 2 Patch Released For PC
Posted by microdude on April 11th, 2006
The patch for PC has finally been released and was availabe for download early this morning. I was looking on my xfire when I saw the server status say: Call of Duty 1.2. I was amazed. We were first told that the patch would be released in early 2006 at the end of 2005. This patch was long over due. You want the real review? Well here it is!
I got a quick download, its a very small patch @ 33MB. Install went fine and flawless to say the least. I then loaded up Call of Duty 2 and noticed the small amount of servers ( under 200). Then error number one occurs… I join a server. When the connection process started, I though it was going to be quick like it had been before. 15 seconds later, im still staring at my black connection screen. I finally get into the game and started playing the first new map. MP_Rhine is a quite decent sized map, offering great gameplay for both SD and CTF. My exprience on SD was quite like all other SD maps. Great hidding spots, sniper holes, and secret ways. The one thing about Rhine is the amount of buildings it has. They provide many different travel ways and hiding spots. The bomb locations are ideal in the street areas. Overall, a pretty decent well built map. The second map, MP_Harbor was a remake of the original map for Call of Duty 1. What was added? They improved several areas of this map, including Ramp Room & Top Police. They also have added a new indoor area right by russian spawn. This little area is great in CTF (Capture the Flag) as it provides a different way to get the flag back and to hide with the enemies flag. I also noticed the amount of detail they have put into this map. Maxed out on Direct X9, you could see every crack in each building, the light reflections, and we can’t forget about the snow. It looks very realistic and this map is great.
Overall, the patch seems to be so good so far. Punkbuster was also added in this patch, which will hopefully cut down the amount of hackers present in Call of Duty 2. At this time, there are still very few servers to play on, less than 500. You may have to wait to find a server, but its well worth it!
